Here’s a good headlamp with a red light mode that’s great for recording dreams in the middle of the night that won’t wake you up more than necessary. This feature is on certain headlamps for setting things up at night, without reducing your natural night vision.
There might be less expensive headlamps that similar things from Eveready. I know/like this brand because once you set the light to red – it stays red when you turn it off and on. Again, others may do same, but not sure…
